Christopher Laubis

Chief Executive Officer

Chris has deep roots in the Opengate community and brings with him a wealth of valuable experience. His first job supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities was in New York City in 1985. Chris then came to Opengate in 1989, where he worked closely for 12 years with our outgoing CEO Brian Hulten. Chris remembers Brian as a mentor and role model, particularly in areas of individual’s rights and protections.

After working at Opengate as a Classroom Teacher, Sheltered Workshop Manager, and Assistant Residential Director, Chris left Opengate in 2001 but remained in the field. He has spent the last 22 years at another agency, first as the Director of Clinical Services and most recently as the Chief Program Officer, during which time he developed a variety of successful and engaging new programs.

Chris is thrilled to be back at Opengate and says:

“I look at it as a homecoming. It was the first organization to offer me a career opportunity instead of just a job. I’ve maintained a bond with Opengate over the years, volunteering on the Informed Consent Committee and catching up with the individuals I once supported, who I see out in the community from time to time.”

Chris brings both foundational memory and creative strategies to his new role:

“With Brian’s retirement, there was concern that some of Opengate’s essential history could be lost. I’m happy to bring with me an understanding of Opengate’s roots, as well as the tools to establish new partnerships and collaborations that will keep the agency strong long into the future. Most of all, I’m looking forward to being part of a dedicated team that helps every individual who relies on us get the highest quality services and support available to them.”
